Healing Keto Chicken Soup for Bronchitis is a total win when trying to recover from illness. My client phoned me yesterday to tell me that he has fallen ill. It inspired me to work on a recipe to help him feel better. When your body is fighting bronchitis or any respiratory infection, a nourishing soup can provide comfort, hydration, and powerful healing support, while still being ketogenic. This recipe is designed to soothe lungs, open up airways, calm inflammation, and provide essential nutrients without glucose spikes and cravings.

Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon avocado oil or extra-virgin olive oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 onion diced
- 1 stalk celery, chopped
- 1 small green pepper, diced
- 1 thumb of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 or 2 chillies cut up or half a teaspoon of cayanne pepper
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (or freshly grated turmeric)
- 2 litre of chicken stock or 2 litres of water with a chicken or vegetable stock cube.
- 100 g carrots/butternut cubes/both
- 100g peas
- 1/2 a can of coconut milk (stir if seperated) – optional for added creaminess
- Fresh herbs: parsley, thyme, rosemary
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- Optional: a splash of fresh lemon juice at serving
Keto adaptation notes: Omit or limit high-carb vegetables such as carrots, peas, potatoes. Include only a small amount of pumpkin (or similar) if you tolerate it. Focus on broth, fat, and protein.
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add garlic, onion, celery rosemary (and optional green pepper) and sauté until the onion is translucent—about 3–4 minutes.
- Add the ginger and turmeric and chillies stirring for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the chicken breasts strips and cook for 1 minute.
- Add chicken stock.
- If using carrots/butternut cubes, add them now, but keep quantity modest so that carbs stay low.
- Simmer, uncovered, for approximately 25–30 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through and tender.
- Remove the chicken, shred it with two forks, and return the meat to the pot. Taste the soup and season with salt, pepper, and, if desired, a little lemon juice for brightness.
- Stir in half a can of coconut milk if you desire a creamier consistency. Delish.
- Serve warm, garnished with fresh parsley or thyme.
Healing Ingredients & Their Benefits
- Garlic is known for its antimicrobial and immune-boosting properties. It helps fight pathogens and supports respiratory health.
- Ginger supports digestion, reduces nausea, and has anti-inflammatory effects that help calm lung inflammation.
- Turmeric (curcumin) is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. It helps reduce inflammation in the airways and supports immune function.
- Bone broth / chicken broth (not stock cutes with water) delivers collagen, amino acids (like glycine, proline), and minerals such as magnesium and potassium that support gut health, reduce inflammation, and help repair tissues.
- Herbs (rosemary, thyme, parsley) offer micronutrients and phytonutrients with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.
This Healing Keto Chicken Soup for Bronchitis is rich in nourishing, healing components, while being low in carbs, supports hydration, eases congestion, and gives your body the building blocks it needs to recover.
Illness, Rest & Mindset: Why Getting Sick Doesn’t Derail Progress
When you fall ill, your body is doing critical work: battling pathogens, healing tissues, and restoring balance. This is a time for restoration and healing and not for self-sabotage. Many people adopt an all-or-nothing mindset: “If I can’t exercise, I’ll just overeat and give up on my diet.” That mindset actually undermines long-term results.
Rather than seeing sickness as failure, reframe it: use the time to calibrate: fortify your nutrition, protect your lean tissue, manage inflammation, and maintain healthy habits that don’t exacerbate illness. Hydration, rest, and nutrient-dense foods can help you bounce back stronger.
Sickness can be beneficial. It gives one time to slow down, rest, reset, heal and once you recover, you resume your full protocols with renewed strength.
Shifting your mindset to see illness as a resting and detox & repair phase rather than a setback. Its a time to relook at your goals, set intentions and be one with you body. Listen to it.
